Margherita Pizza

You know that Margherita Pizza which is always listed in the menu of Pizza joints and which you fancy making at home? With my easy pizza dough recipe, pizza can be made at home in no time! All you need to do is choose your toppings. Be creative and literally add anything. Just like this Margherita Pizaa, you just have to know what flavours work well together. Marinara sauce/Pizza sauce + Basil+Mozarella, you just can't wrong here.

Thin crust v/s thick crust, veggies v/s no veggies, people seem to be always debating on their choice of pizza! I love a good Margherita Pizza which has a thin and crisp crust. One of my favourite joints, Pizza by the way in Mumbai serves best pizzas in town. Paired with a glass of cold lemon iced tea, their signature Bombay Masala pizza is to die for! That sauce, oh that sauce! And that golden bubbling buttery cheese on top of that sauce! Gone to the heaven and back!

Off late I have been feeling that Pizzas are ridiculously expensive outside, it breaks my heart. And most of the pizzas aren't even worth it. All you can taste is flour and cheese. Pizza sauce is very sparsely spread and don't even get me started on veggies!

As I am writing this post, whole house is permeating with smell of pizza which is crisping up in the oven to perfection. I have just put pizza tray in the oven and I already can't wait! Family members will soon come gather around the oven to wait for the moment when pizza will come out, all ready to be devoured.

Easy and sensational Margherita pizza made with my home-made pizza dough and marinara/pizza sauce. Once you make it, I promise you will make it repeatedly!

Diet: Vegetarian
Type: Main course
Serving: 1 pizza

Ingredients

1 ball Pizza dough (Recipe here)
2 Tbsp Marinara sauce/Pizza sauce (Recipe here)
1/4th cup grated mozzarella cheese (I used Amul Pizza cheese)
8-10 Fresh Basil Leaves
Extra virgin olive oil

Method

Pre heat oven at 250 degrees for 10 minutes.

Take one dough ball at a time and add roll it out to about quarter of an inch.  Carefully lift and place onto an oiled baking tray.

Bake in oven at 250 degrees for 5 mins and then take the baking tray out and spread pizza sauce over the base leaving aside the edges.

Arrange 4-5 basil leaves and cover with grated mozzarella cheese.

Bake in a pre-heated oven at 250 degrees Celsius for 12-15 minutes or till edges have started browning and cheese is bubbling.

Once pizza is almost cooked and sturdy, lift with a wooden spatula and transfer to grill from baking tray and bake for further 5 minutes. This will ensure that Pizza is cooked even from the center.

Top with more basil leaves and extra virgin olive oil.

Serve hot!

Some other variations you can try!

1. Marinara sauce+ Mozzarella cheese + Aurgula
2. Marinara sauce + Caramelized onion+charred bell peppers+ feta cheese
3. Pesto sauce + Tomato+ Mozzarella cheese
4. Hummus + Onion+ Aurugula + feta cheese
5. Nutella + Banana and strawberries (Dessert Pizza)

Tips

Make sure that your oven has been pre-heated for 10 minutes at 250 degrees Celsius.

Spread pizza sauce and cheese only after putting rolled out pizza dough on oiled baking tray.

Remove from the tray once pizza is almost cooked and bake on oven grill for 3-5 minutes to have that perfect pizza cooked from the center too.

Drizzle extra virgin olive oil on pizza before serving.
